Is a Breast Plastic Surgery Procedure Right for Me?
Patients not satisfied with the appearance and dimensions of their breasts are candidates for cosmetic breast surgery. Reconstructive breast surgery is ideal for patients who have undergone a mastectomy due to breast cancer.
The best candidates for breast surgery are generally healthy and have realistic expectations. Non-smokers are preferred for all plastic surgery procedures, since smoking can cause issues in the recovery and healing process.
Your Breast Plastic Surgery Consultation
You and Dr. Aisha White will discuss your expectations for breast plastic surgery. A physical examination will be performed.
Dr. White will look over your medical records to ensure that the procedure can be safely performed. If you had breast cancer, a detailed examination will be required to confirm that the cancer is no longer present.
A treatment plan will be developed, including the selection of the right breast plastic surgery procedure to achieve the desired results. A date will be set for your procedure.
In preparation for breast plastic surgery, your current medications and supplements may be changed or stopped depending on the recommendations of Dr. White.
The Procedure
The duration of breast plastic surgery will vary depending on the type of procedure. The operation will start by administering anesthesia to the patient. Based on the treatment plan and chosen procedure, incisions will be made in the targeted areas.
Breast plastic surgery can necessitate adding breast implants, transferring the patients’ excess fat to the area, altering muscle tissues, tightening skin, and/or removing excess skin, fat, and glandular tissue. The areolae may also be repositioned/resized.
Once the desired changes have been made, the incisions will be closed with stitches to end the surgery.
Healing and Recovery
The downtime or recovery period after breast plastic surgery will depend on the type of breast reconstruction procedure and the healing capacity of the patient. The patient will notice swelling and bruising on the breast area for the first week. Drains may be inserted into the area to remove fluid buildup after the surgery.
Following the instructions provided by Dr. White will be necessary for a smooth and timely recovery. The patient will visit Dr. White for a follow-up to evaluate the recovery status and determine which physical activities will be allowed.
Breast Plastic Surgery Cost
The type of procedure will dictate the cost of breast plastic surgery. If it’s a purely cosmetic procedure, health insurance will not cover its cost. If it’s a reconstructive procedure or one being performed to relieve physical issues, patients will be advised to call their health insurance company to inquire if the price will be covered.
