Has your pregnancy been left stretched out and stressed out? For many women, the difference between the appearance of their pre-pregnancy and post-baby bodies can be both shocking and disheartening. Pregnancy causes some major changes to multiple areas of the body, and while some of these changes go away after giving birth, others are much more permanent. Even with diet and exercise, some areas will not return to their pre-baby state. Nobody understands the needs of a mother better than women. Dr. Aisha White is proud to be one of the few female plastic surgeons available around Austin, Texas.

At Quintessence Plastic Surgery we have helped numerous mothers, throughout the Austin area, gain back their comfort with the appearance of their bodies by providing them with a mommy makeover. A unique procedure. The mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures that target and rejuvenates the areas of the body most affected by pregnancy.

Dr. White came highly recommended by my primary care physician and I am so glad I went to her for my mommy makeover. Dr. White had incredible bed side manners and my mommy makeover results exceeded myexpectations. Her office staff was so kind and I felt like I was part of a little family. Dr. White is amazing at what she does and comes highly recommended by not only my physician but me now.Vitals.com

Am I a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Do you have a noticeable tummy pooch that won’t go away no matter how long you avoid carbs or no matter how many crunches you do? Have your breasts lost their perky appearance and round shape and have now taken on a sagging appearance? These are the common issues that many women develop after pregnancy that make them excellent candidates for a mommy makeover.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures that often involve a breast rejuvenation procedure (usually a breast augmentation, breast lift, or a combination of both) to help improve breast volume, shape, and position, and an abdominoplasty which will help to tighten the abdominal core and remove excess abdominal skin.

In many cases, surgery is the only way to restore the appearance of the abdomen after pregnancy because the patient may be suffering from diastasis recti. Diastasis rectus is a condition that occurs when the muscles along the abdominal wall have become loose and stretched. A tummy tuck is performed to surgically tighten the abdominal wall which will give the stomach a flatter appearance.

In some cases, additional body procedures may be desired to satisfy the patient’s individual aesthetic needs. The procedures include an arm lift and a thigh lift. During your initial consultation with plastic surgeon Dr. Aisha White, you can discuss which areas of the body you would like addressed so that a personalized surgical plan that suits your needs can be formulated.

Here are 5 Things to Know About a Mommy Makeover:

  • A mommy makeover is the combination of an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck and a breast procedure
  • The breast procedure may be a breast augmentation with implants, fat transfer to the breasts, a breast reduction, or a breast lift
  • If the breast procedure is a breast reduction, it may be covered by insurance
  • The abdominoplasty may be combined with liposuction
  • Postoperative activity restrictions last for about 6-8 weeks but most people feel back to themselves at around 2 weeks postop. Patients love the efficiency of recuperating from both procedures at the same time

Your Mommy Makeover Consultation

A mommy makeover consultation will involve an in-depth discussion regarding your appearance goals. Dr. White will determine which procedures will effectively aesthetically improve the areas you want to address.

The procedure can include any combination of a breast augmentation with implants or transferred fat, a breast lift, a breast reduction, an abdominoplasty, liposuction, an arm lift, and a thigh lift. You and Dr. White will customize your mommy makeover during your consultation.

Provide your complete medical history and previous and current prescriptions to help Dr. White determine the most effective medications, sedation, and anesthesia for the procedure.

How to Prepare for a Mommy Makeover

Since a mommy makeover will include multiple procedures, your overall physical health should be good enough for a surgical procedure. Planning time off from work and strenuous activities is very important. Arrange two to four weeks of leave depending on the recovery period that your procedures will require.

These procedures will also restrict your movement. It is therefore advised to have a companion to assist with meal preparation, household activities, or hygienic practices.

Secure your transportation to and from the surgical facility in advance, and prepare your bedroom for recovery. Make sure to have enough pillows and have necessities nearby.

You should also be prepared emotionally and physically before the procedure. Surround yourself with a support system that will help you throughout your mommy makeover journey.

Refrain from smoking for four to six weeks before and after the procedure to avoid complications with healing. Avoid eating starting eight hours before surgery to prevent vomiting during the procedure.

What to Expect in a Mommy Makeover

One of the main benefits of the mommy makeover is that multiple procedures are performed at once. This means that the recovery time will be combined, and you won’t have to worry about coming in at a later date to have another procedure performed and go through another recovery.

The recovery process can be more uncomfortable than just a single procedure due to the scope of a mommy makeover, but you will be provided with post-operative instructions that will help make sure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible.

It is important that you understand that having another child will affect the results of your mommy makeover. We recommend that you undergo the procedure once you have finished having children.

What is the Cost of a Mommy Makeover?

The mommy makeover procedure is unique from other procedures in that there are many more variables that can determine the cost. A very rough estimate of an expected cost is $10,00 – $15,000. The price may change based on the individual needs of the patient and the scope of the surgeries being performed.

Financing for a mommy makeover is also available through CareCredit.
