Your Guide to Fuller, Plumper Lips
Sometimes our lips don’t feel as full and plump as we would like them to be, leaving us to take a little bit of extra time in the mornings to put on those bright lipsticks and super shiny lip glosses. We’ve all been there, right? Some of us, however, may consider undergoing lip augmentation. Nonsurgical procedures are used to give the lips a more full shape and knowing the different options that are available is important before going into any type of procedure.
Lip augmentation procedures are used to add volume, correct contour
irregularities and diminish the appearance of static lines. Injections are completed during an office visit, and there is minimal down-time afterwards. There will be a noticeable difference immediately after the procedure is complete, and once your lips have healed, they should feel natural.
Nonsurgical Options
Undergoing any kind of operation can be nerve-racking. That’s why some people opt for non-surgical options to get plumper lips. Injections are among the most common forms of non-surgical lip augmentation. Types of injectable fillers that Dr. Aisha White offers include:
These are all hyaluronic acid fillers, which can improve the appearance of your lips by adding shape, volume and structure. Benefits to getting hyaluronic acid fillers include better control over lip volume, bumps dissolve more easily, less bruising and they can be administered at a gradual pace for treatment. The effects usually last around six months to one year. Afterwards, more injections are needed in order to maintain the shape of your lips.
Injections take place in Dr. Aisha White’s office and are a quick procedure with little to no downtime. Numbing cream is applied to the area of the injection prior to the procedure (It’s similar to anesthetic injections you get at the dentist to numb your mouth). After marking the areas to be injected, a fine needle is inserted into the lip. Once the procedure is complete, ice may be applied to the area to help with swelling, and then voila, you have plumper, fuller lips!
Is Lip Augmentation Right for Me?
When going into lip augmentation it’s important to have realistic expectations. Make sure to discuss the various options with your plastic surgeon. A good candidate for lip augmentation is someone who is a non-smoker, does not have an infection in the lips, and does not have diabetes or blood clotting problems. It’s also important to address any known allergies and to list any medications you’re currently taking.
